Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large (50g) egg
  • 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • ½ tsp (3g) sea salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (150g) chopped walnuts
  • ½ tsp (3g) flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 18 x 13-inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. Brown the butter: Place butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Melt and continue cooking, whisking constantly, until the butter foams and small brown specks appear at the bottom and it smells nutty. Remove from heat immediately.
  3. In a large bowl, stir the browned butter with brown and white sugars until smooth.
  4. Whisk in the egg and vanilla extract until the mixture looks glossy and combined.
  5. Fold in the flour, baking soda, and salt using a spatula, mixing just until no streaks of flour remain.
  6. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
  7. Transfer the batter to the prepared baking sheet, spreading it evenly, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, and bake for 25 minutes.
