Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup (50g) white granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup (30g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
Instructions:
- Beat the softened butter and both sugars together using an electric hand mixer until the mixture looks pale and fluffy.
- Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and cohesive.
- Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt into the wet mixture.
- Mix on low speed just until the white streaks of flour disappear; do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips by hand.
- Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9–11 minutes.
- Remove the tray when the edges are set but the centers still look slightly soft and underbaked to utilize residual heat.
