Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (165g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs (100g)
  • 2 tsp (10ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp (5g) baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (115g) chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Beat the softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar on medium high speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture looks pale and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients on low speed, mixing only until no streaks of flour remain.
  5. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts using a spatula.
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto parchment lined baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 9-11 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven when edges are golden brown, even if the centers still look soft and slightly underbaked.
  9. Let them cool on the pan for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack.
