Description
This mashed potatoes recipe creates the creamiest, fluffiest side dish perfect for any meal. With just a few simple ingredients, you’ll get smooth, buttery mashed potatoes with a rich and delicious flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup heavy cream (or whole milk)
- 1 tsp salt, plus more to taste
- ½ tsp black pepper
- Optional: 2 cloves garlic, minced (for extra flavor)
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes: Place potato chunks in a large pot, cover with cold salted water, and bring to a boil. Cook for 15–20 minutes until fork-tender.
- Drain and mash: Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the pot. Mash using a potato masher or ricer for a smooth texture.
- Add butter and cream: Warm the cream and butter together, then mix into the potatoes. Stir until creamy and well combined.
- Season and serve: Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot with extra butter on top if desired.
Notes
- Use Russet potatoes for the fluffiest texture or Yukon Gold for a naturally buttery flavor.
- Avoid over-mashing, as it can make the potatoes gluey.
- For extra richness, substitute half the butter with cream cheese or sour cream.
